India Finish Fourth at Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games With 39 Medals as Flag Passes to Ahmedabad

Gen Voice August 5, 2026 — 11:15 AM By MAHAK VERMA 1 min read

India's campaign at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games came to a close without any further additions to the medal tally on the final day, finishing fourth overall with 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze. Judoka Ishroop Narang came closest to a late medal, narrowly missing out on bronze in the women's -78kg category after a loss to Canada's Coralie Godbout, while India's track cycling contingent also wrapped up without a medal: Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam finished 20th in the men's 1000m time trial, Dinesh Kumar was eliminated in the men's 40km points race qualifiers, and Harshveer Singh Sekhon exited during his qualifying heat.

Attention then shifted to the closing ceremony at Glasgow's Hydro arena, where boxing gold medallist Jaismine Lamboria carried the Indian tricolour during the athletes' parade as the country's flag-bearer. The Commonwealth Games flag was formally handed over to Indian representatives in the presence of Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha, formally confirming India's role as host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.

As part of the handover, India presented a 20-minute cultural showcase at the closing ceremony, led by musician Shankar Mahadevan and actor Manushi Chhillar among other performers, offering a preview of Indian heritage and culture ahead of the Games moving to Ahmedabad. Wheelchair racer Lisha Das brought the curtain down on India's on-field campaign, finishing sixth in the women's C4-C5 1000m time trial with a time of 1:34.410.

With the Glasgow Games now concluded, focus shifts toward the four-year build-up to Ahmedabad 2030, as India prepares to host the Commonwealth Games on home soil for the first time.
